A broad touch on engaging and communicating with disabled people
This is a hybrid workshop being delivered online (zoom) and in person (The Kollective). Please indicate your preference when you register.
This training will provide a fun and engaging way of learning about the prevalence and types of disability in the community.
Participants will learn the basics of how to confidently engage with disabled customers, as well as covering skills in base etiquette and communications skills, from sending an email, writing instructions down, to creating basic accessible social media posts.
Key topics covered:
- What do we mean by ‘disability’? – an exploration of the prevalence and types of disability in the Bay of Plenty.
- Principles of disability etiquette – learn about the 5 rules of disability etiquette,appropriate language to use, and more….
- Accessible communications 101 – learn about the fundamentals of accessible communications, and making your emails, MS Word documents, social media posts, and more…. accessible from the outset.
- Quick tips on being more inclusive for specific disability types
